As one of engine’s most important components, whether the design of crankshaftis reasonable decides its success or failure, and it influences greatly to thecompactness, reliability, durability and the economy. With development of the engine,the higher performance demands, the more important design of crankshaft becomesunder the condition of operating in a high speed. It’s a core of crankshaft design toconfirm the structure, materials and strengthening process. One of the important waysis the simulation for the initial validation and optimization design. Testing the successor failure of the design of the crankshaft is fatigue test and endurance test; Just likethis, the design of the crankshaft can be completed.Based on the analysis of domestic and international fully with this researchproject on the basis of related literature resources,make full use of the author nearly15years experience of engine parts design, systematically summed up thedevelopment present situation of the high performance gasoline engine crankshaft,and did a more detailed study to strength、torsion vibration of the crankshaft. Throughthe application AVL Excite software, establish the high performance gasoline enginecrankshaft department multi-body dynamics calculation model, and calculated.Analysis the scheme of crankshaft with CAE, confirmed the feasibility of the designscheme, indicated the design direction and combining with the manufacturer’smaterial and processing technology finally perfected the design work. In the nextdesign verification, first testing crankshaft fatigue on the crankshaft fatigue testmachine, assemble test to the crankshaft after through verification, through the tworounds of550hours mixed load and400hours alternating load working, reach designgoal. Results showed that the crankshaft meet design requirements, reliable, and highperformance. Prove the correctness of the design. The research work of this papermainly includes:1)According to the design specification including design boundary of the cylinderblock and head, conceptual design of crankshaft is completed for preliminary analysis,further analysis and testing by tool of PRO/E.2) Multi-body dynamics model is established by AVL-Excite for simulation tocalculate strength of structure, torsion vibration, bearing load, etc; and according tothe result, the design of crankshaft is completed for3D&2D engineering drawings. 3) According to3D&2D engineering drawings, product production is made andcarrying out fatigue test by the supplier; then the reliability of crankshaft is verifiedby engine test.4) Finally, the whole process of the design is summarized in this paper.
