With the rapid development of national economy and transportation industry, the construction of long span bridges crossing rivers and straits in china has been in a new era. At the same time, the security issues of passing ships under the bridge become more and more important. Ship collision has become indispensable to the design of bridges crossing navigation channels. Recently, imulation technology has applied broadly in the research of ship-bridge collision.Therefore, the significance of this study is ship-bridge collision simulation which can reproduce the impact force, the damage deformation and the time history of energy absorption, that is very important to determine the ship impact force and the dynamic response of bridge. It can be a more accurate assessment of the bridge in the safety of the ship-bridge collision in engineering design. In this paper, the main contents are as following:(1)Based on the comprehensive understanding of related literature home and abroad, the mechanic mechanism of colliding between ship and bridge, and some key problems in collision numerical simulation such as the fundamental controlling equations, the finite element dispersion equations, the material strain rate sensitivity and the friction force effect etc were discussed.(2)Combined with General Code for Design of Highway Bridges and Culverts and AASHTO Guide, the safety evaluation of Xiang River Bridge in Chen Jia Zhou was put forward.(3)By simulating the ship-bridge collision, the dynamic responses of the bridge such as impact force time-curve, energy time-curve and the deformation of bridge in collision were obtained. The results were compared with the safety evaluation above.(4)In connection with Xiang River Bridge in Chen Jia Zhou, several factors such as impact angle, impact velocity, tonnage of ship, material of bridge pier, which have influences on the ship force and the reaction of the bridge were discussed.(5)On the basis of three numerical simulation models, the characteristic and applicable conditions of three numerical models were presented.Finally, some issues of study on numerical simulation of ship-bridge collision were prospected and further researches on this area were summarized.
