There are lots of traditional Row‐houses in the historical district in Guangzhou, always with small gardens or atriums in the middle or back of them. The atrium is the mainly method to solve the ventilation problem in this long house, as the result of the different temperature inside and outside. The study simulates the ventilation through CFD model, and analysis the indoor micro‐climate on different cases of outdoor wind speed and temperature.Ventilation and cooling is important to the building in summer in south China, so that the atrium is an energy‐saving space in both traditional houses and modern buildings. As an evaluation on a built office building, designed by Atelier Y, we studied the ventilation and temperature of the atrium in it, proved that it will let the ventilate in and cool down the air effectively.
