The Research Of Daowai Waterfront Ladscape Design Based On Regional Culture

With the rapid urbanization and industrialization, the construction of urban landscape is receiving more and more attention the development of city. In several cities of China, The landscape renovation is being processed in full swing. It is of great realistic importance for us to better fulfill the following goal:to keep the whole historical style and to protect regional culture of the city; to balance the effects of blindly pursuing modernization which leads to the lack of sign characteristics of a city and the initiative of positively promoting the merge of landscape design of waterfront area and regional culture in harmony.Harbin forms its unique regional culture in the development process. On one hand, it comes from natural feature; on the other hand, it is intensely influenced by political and cultural factors which finally build the city’s characteristics during its development. Therefore, it is suggestive for designers to give rise to abundant changing based on the conservation of regional culture. Only in this way, can the genie of the city be inherited through history and the traditional culture of people and country be presented.In this research, we investigated a typical waterfront area of Harbin, a bar-shipped area from Binzhou Railway Bridge to Songpu Bridge. From the aspect of history, surrounding buildings, current situations of buildings, waters and botany, the Embankment section and the space of notes, the research gives an analysis of the merge between waterfront landscape design and regional culture. Referring to successful cases in renovation of waterfront area of other countries, this research gives discussion about several classical influential theories in relation with regional culture, place landscape, neo-regionalism and Ecological waterfront area design, and then, summarizes the techniques of expressing harmonized effect when both the design principle of landscaping and the idea of preserving the regional culture are taken in to consideration.Finally, this research proposes a plan for the renovation of waterfront area in Harbin. The plan focuses on three dimensions:regional ecological environment conservation, regional cultural characteristics and heritage of historical culture.This research focuses on giving moderate suggestions of combining the regional culture and waterfront landscape design. In company with field investigation in Daowai district, this research seeks to provide some constructive suggestions and references to the design and building of waterfront area landscape considering both design principle and regional cultural background in the future.
