As one significant component of the landscape environment of the city park, pavement can notonly satisfy the basic pavement function, but also enhance the pavement identification by the uniquecolor, texture and pattern. Different types of the city parks form different mood styles, while theappropriate pavement design can effectively set off the environmental atmosphere and in the meanwhilepresents certain cultural connotation to better illustrate the cultural feature of the city park.This essay intends to study the theory and application of the city park in Hangzhou, and proceedsas follow. In the first section, it defines the concept of city park and pavement, summarizes the purposeand significance to study the pavement of the city park, analyzes the study condition both home andabroad, and indicates and contents and framework. The second section is followed by the detailedillustration of the city park pavement, including the national and international study development ofpavement, the three categorizations of pavement, the functions of pavement and its future developmenttrend. The third section mainly summarizes the current condition of the city park in Hangzhou, itsexisting problems and the distribution areas. The six elements of Hangzhou city park, namely color,texture, configuration, criterion, height difference and frontier, are illustrated with details. So are thethree characteristics namely vision, perception and space. In the fourth section it posts the fiveprinciples of pavement design, i.e. people orientation, history protection, sustainable development,coordination and visual characteristics satisfaction, and summarizes the design modes of the Hangzhoucity park pavement from three aspects, i.e. space layout, style orientation and design consideration. Thelast section focuses the case study of Hangzhou Shuyuan Park. It analyzes the design consideration,function and features of the Shuyuan Park pavement. It also points out the design deficiencies and putforwards the remedy measures.This essay focuses on pavement study in the design consideration aspects like color, texture,configuration, criterion etc, with combination of the case study of Shuyuan Park to discuss thepavement type suiting its surrounding environmental landscape and its design mode, which providescertain theory guide for pavement design.
