In present, a large number of villages are in construction. The main subjects in the current construction are how to narrow the gap between urban and rural areas, to develop modern agriculture, to maintain the ecosystem of rural areas, and to improve rural residential environment. The demand of residents should be fully considered including dwelling condition, medical treatment, and cultural events. The new villages are supposed to be more convenient and easier to be used. The research selected eight villages in the county of Gaotai as case studies including Hongshahe village, Houzhuang Village, Jiuba Village, Qiaoerwan Village, the Wutong Village, Xitan Village, Xingou Village and Xinkai Village. After analyzing Hongshahe village, which used the character of mixed mode, we have made the following conclusions:1. Base on these case studies, three modes of rural landscape planning are summerised:preservation mode, updating mode and mixed mode.2. Rural landscape planning should combine with industry structure adjustment. Each village should have their own brands and then develop ecological tourism to make the landscape more diversified.3. Based on local natural process and human activities, the land should be used properly in new rural area planning. Land use includes agricultural production, agricultural service, agricultural leisure tourism and agricultural ecology land use. Proper land use should make sure that economy, society and ecology develop harmoniously.4. Construct landscape structure with points-block-network-surface which includes architecture landscape, road landscape, green landscape, central public landscape, as well as sketch landscape design. Connection between agricultural production activity and living should be fully considered in design. Meanwhile, local cultural recourses will be well made used of. It is also important to increase facilities for recreation, education, culture and sports. Landscape will be used maximally.5. Planning will integrate the redundant land and increase the land use ratio, such as reducing the waste of land due to empty house without using and multiple house owned by only one household, as well as using the land as agricultural use. Abandoned land and the land which is not suitable for agriculture can be used as public green space.
