The rapid development of housing industry have maintained a steady growth trend in recent years in China.Compact housing also can be seen in this process.The file what the government released t for controlling the area of housing promoted the development of the compact housing directly in2006. Therefore, it has great practical significancee that to study for compact housing in this situation.We reviewed and summarized the theories and practices for compact housing national and abroad in recent centuri. Based on these achievements, we did lots of analysis and summary for compact housing in two ways:the meaning and assessment principles of the compact housing; integrated design approach for compact departmentBy the above discussion, this paper attempted to get the following conclusions:Firstly, the meaning and assessment principles of compact housing:moderation level, comfortable level, adaptable level are three elements of compact housing. These three elements should be a reasonable trade-off for the design for compact department.Secondly, integrated design approach for compact housing:the integrated design approach for compact housing is the integrate of the whole process and all industries. The participation of residents is an important factor in the whole process of integration. While the integration of building design and interior design is the key part of integration design of compact housing.
