Chaoshan Tak Old Residential Courtyardslandscape Transformation

As the development of urbanization, more people are shifting from traditional residence to urban area, which causes desertion of the dwellings in Chaoshan area. Those well-constructed and profound-culture buildings, therefore, are facing demolishment.In recent years, increasing attention are paid to those tradition residences and successful utilization or transformation of it are taking place, such as Nanluogu Lane of Beijing, Kuan Zhai Alley of Chengdu. They have become delicate spaces for art and leisure, such as high-class restaurants, creative spaces, multifunctional business spaces, living spaces. The transformation does not lose Chinese characteristics, but also have organized planning and earful design, which turn those unitary living-buildings into what they are today.The former residence of Fangrao in Deanli is a large official residence with peculiar structure and magnificent layout that occupies about40,000square meters. As an impact of the boom of transformation of traditional residence, Deanli is also trying to reform in order to gain more attention for its long history and exquisite decoration. During the process, however, it comes across many difficulties that cause the delay of appearance to the public.This dissertation will analyze and make reference to some classic cases, for example, Beijing courtyard, Kuan Zhai Alley of Chengdu, to draw a conclusion on principals for design, to analyze the transmission of traditional Chinese culture through the combination of interface symbol of dwellings and landscape of courtyard. Lastly, the value of transformation and the way of display will be discussed by providing examples and actual design projects.
