Freight train is the transport tool of railway freight transport task; the brake rigging is the actuating element for speed-down and parking and necessary equipment for operation security of freight train. With the development of freight train to high-speed and heavy-haul transportation, the research on brake rigging is becoming more important. The rapid development of freight car puts forward higher requirement for brake rigging.Most freight car is using traditional spread type foundation brake rigging, yet, traditional spread type foundation brake rigging with limited structure and multilevel levers transmission and complicated layout, reduces the transmission efficiency and the reliability of braking and releasing. Comparatively speaking, compact foundation brake rigging which is due to the reduction of levers, increases transmission efficiency and installs conveniently, simultaneously improving the distributed homogeneity of brake shoe pressure. Compact foundation brake rigging has an huge technical superiority.Combining the developing situation to compact foundation brake rigging home and abroad, and analysing some typical compact foundation brake rigging, according to the structure characteristics of K6bogie, the paper designed a compact foundation brake rigging for freight car bogie. In the process of designing, designing general planning firstly, analysing the motion, calculated the braking diatance in order to check the braking force. Each of the entity components to foundation brake rigging was designed by Pro/E of3D modeling software. Motion simulation to the foundation brake rigging was executed by motion module in Pro/E. The braking beam and pushbeam were analysed by FEM software ANSYS and tested for strength requirement. Finally, the pneumatic system model of foundation brake rigging which had been designed was constructed by using the Advanced Modeling Environment for Simulation of engineering systems (AMESim); then, analysed the calculation results. Research and analysis show that design scheme is fit to install on K6bogie of railway freight car.
