With the ocean engineering extending to deeper water, anchor handling operation is more and more difficult and dangerous for Anchor Handling Vessels (AHV), accordingly, this demands much more on the professional quality of the Anchor Handling-Crew (AH-crew). How to get more efficient and effective professional training on the AH-crew, therefore, becomes an urgent issue to be solved.Whereas, advanced Anchor Handling Simulator (AHS) not only can be an important tool for training on the navigators and winch operators, as well as the deck crew that related with anchor handling operation. In comparison with the traditional training method, the new method can shorten lots of time, making lots of savings in cost and without any danger. Furthermore, AHS can also be used for testing and assessing the feasibility and correctness of anchor handling procedure and rig moving plan.The method of modeling the mooring system and the visualization technology are key technologies of the AHS. The quality of the dynamics model of the mooring system can affect the accuracy, real-time and practical applicability of the simulation. The visualization quality of the mooring system can affect the fidelity and immersive feeling in the scene simulation of AHS, and hence affects the quality of training on anchor handling by using the AHS.This paper will study on the method of modeling the mooring system, construct the dynamics model of the mooring system and realize the visualization of it. This will lay some foundation for further research and develop on AHS. The innovative work in this paper goes as follows:1. By comparing and analyzing the method of modeling mooring system, and considering the demand of AHS, lumped mass method was chosen to be used in modeling the mooring system. 2. Based on the dynamics model of the mooring system, study and determine the numerical solution of the model. The program for getting the positions of all the lumped mass points and the forces acting on the points was coded.3. Study and determine the visualization method of the mooring system, apply the Billboard technique to map texture to the chain and the work wire, and then realize the visualization of the mooring system. Ultimately, dynamical simulation of the four kinds of anchoring and the anchor handling procedure of AHV was implemented respectively.
