The past20years,China’s bridge construction made brilliant achievements.Bridge construction stands in the front rank in the world in the speed and scale, it breakthrough in the bridge type, span, technology, process and other aspects. After joy and pride,we should face up the problems and deficiencies.In the bridge’s technical aspects,China is still not a great-power country. For a long time past, bridge construction attached no significance to the durability problem, some of bridges, by making premature degradation and maintenance. Bridge lack of independent innovation because of the deficiency of technical reserves.The thoughts of attach weight to construction and despise management made us neglect the importence of management, the management is backward and extensive.All these has brought about huge economic burden in society. In order to implement the concept of sustainable development, it is necessary to change the design concept based on the "status" in the past into the new design concept based on the life-cycle. Having referenced to those advanced method domestic and abroad,this paper further research life-cycle design method.First of all, A comprehensive overview of bridge design content based on life-cycle thinking, summed up some new ideas, new problems in recent years about this new methoed, further enrich the design contents. Comprehensive contrast to the traditional bridge concept and new concept, it is intended to study a comprehensive, advanced and multi-objective nature of the new design concept.Secondly, Research bridges the meaning and models of the life-cycle cost based on the references of domestic and international theories study. Life-cycle cost model were divided into three categories named deterministic model, uncertainty models and empirical models, generalize and fixed the current life-cycle cost model results.And then, with the support of the Dalian xinghai cross-sea bar bridge which is building, studies the main uniqueness and creativity about the design contents based on the life-cycle thingking, Focusing on the durability design, detection design and maintenance design, bridge life cycle cost analysis, highlighting the life-cycle concept applied in bridge design.Finally, summary of bridge design concept based on life-cycle thinking, it sums up the aspects that need further discussion.
