Vertical-wall structure is the most commonly used structure in ocean engineering structures,the main load on the structure is wave forces. According to the comprehensive consideration,such as the function, artistic and the cost of the seawall and the revetment, often allowed to contain a certain of wave overtopping.If the overtopping water is huge,it may produce severe wave forces in the back of the revetment structure,cause the roads and fields in the back of structure damage.Therefore,the wave overtopping forces directly related to the safety of vertical-wall structure,the decision of the top elevation and funds.At present,there aren’t mature theory, experience formula to calculate wave overtopping forces.This paper reviewed the previous work about the statistical distribution of wave forces act on vertical-wall structure, overtopping discharge of vertical-wall structure,and wave impact on vertical-wall structure. Based on the typical section of caisson breakwater, physical models are conducted to research the influence factors for irregular wave overtopping forces,and the statistical distribution of overtopping wave forces and wave trough forces.This paper preliminarily established the relationship between non-dimensional wave forces and the foundation bed width,the foundation bed height,the height of the parapet to the still water surface and waves parameters. Based on the probabilistic analysis of model test data of irregular wave overtopping and wave troughs loads on vertical walls,it is indicated by authors that its distribution can be expressed by Weibull formulation.The parameterβ is well related to wave parameters as well as the parameter of rubble mound foundation,and the parameter η can be obtained by the theoretical relation between β and η. Besides,a factor called wave overtopping influence length is advised to analysis the scope of wave forces. On the analysis of the relative foundation bed width,the wave steep and the relative clearance, the relative empirical equation is fitted.At last,the relation between wave trough forces and its influent factors is analysisted. The distribution of pressure on the vertical-wall when the max wave trough forces occur is given, which may serve as a reference for the engineering design.
