Platforms has played a magnificent role in China’s architectural history for thousands of years,"The high platforms and pavilions, the beautiful royal palaces" was the dominating element of the architectural atmosphere from Chunqiu Era to Weijin Era. In today’s Beijing, platforms still stand out in the Imperial architecture cluster, which can be found in palaces and garden sketches, with great diversity of type and style. The main subject of this thesis is platforms in Beijing Imperial architectures. On the macro level platforms as a architectural category is described in general, including the definition, origin, historical development, classification and construction technique; On the micro level, based on the author’s field research of various palaces, gardens and altars, a comprehensive study is done by photographing, measuring and computer modeling of the representative examples, in this process a deep study of the architectural rules and techniques of the Ming and Qing official architectures in Beijing is carried out.
