With the continuous development of higher education, improving college environmenthas become the main target of college development. The environment and facilities, as apart of college environment, will play a major role in the process. However, thephenomenon of similarity can be easily identified in most of the universities around Chinawhich fails to reflect the universities’ characteristics、spirit and culture and meet the needsof their development. The universities’ development needs the environment and facilitiescarrying certain connotation and the design of this kind of connotation needs to beoptimized. In case of the means of optimization, product semantics is one of them whichvalues the subject spirit and culture connotation of the facilities on the premise of stressingthe envionment and facilities’ utilizing function. In view of the above reasons, the authorof the essay will conduct the reseach of universities’ environment and facilities from theperspective of product semantics. Using literature research method、investigating method、questionare method and case analysis method, the author will analyze the environment andfacilities’ conveying process and semantic features, will induce various factors and designprinciple influencing university environment and facilities and finally will conclude themethod of semantic performance in university invironment and facilities from the angle ofmetaphor meaning the metaphor of the nature, the historical context and abstract form. Finally, by using the actual design sample of Shijiazhuang Tiedao University’senvironment and facilities the author examines and supplements the above theories andmethods to direct other universities to embody their specific characteristics in their ownenvironment and facilities design. Meanwhile, the author sincerely hopes that this researchwill promote the design development of other enviornment and facilities in the fields suchas commercial street environment、residential area environment、health care environmentand so on.
