Along with the fast growth of China’s economy and rapid urbanism process, themountainous city, Chongqing, also conducts its large scale urban construction. But whatcomes with is the homogenizing of city form, and the vanishing of regional character, and the lost spaces of the mountainous city spaces. The urban construction one-sidedmeet the function of the city economic demand but neglects the inheritance of theregional characteristics. In order to solve these problems, this paper takes the micro public spaces inmountainous city as a research object. The purpose of this study is that by thesummarizing and refining of the traditional micro public spaces, and under theadaptability theory structure, an adaptable design method can be obtained to solve theerosion of mountainous city characteristics, and inherits these characteristics in newprojects. For this purpose, this paper uses the methods of investigation and analysis, takesChongqing’s micro public spaces as examples, first by analysis the typical planarstructure type, space structure type, planar elements and cultural elements, and thenanalysis the functional need in modern mountainous city space, then get the adaptableevolution process of the mountainous city micro public spaces. Then this paperpromotes the design principles and strategies. Finally based on the actual cases, theapplication of the design method in contemporary architecture design is discussed. This paper is divided into seven chapters:Chapter1, the introduction clears the meaning, purpose, scope and the mainconcept of this research. Then this chapter clears the research methods and theframework, to lay a foundation for further study.Chapter2, into the overall structure of adaptability theory, theory and mountainouscity space adaptability with, and in the light of the mountainous city space micro levelcharacteristics are analyzed.Chapter3, this chapter discusses based on the overall structure, summaries andanalysis separately on the planar structure, the space structure of the mountainous citymicro public spaces, and lists the typical types.Chapter4, based on the above research, this chapter studies the elements of themountainous city micro public spaces. According to the classification of planar elements and spatial elements, the summarization is not only on the architectural spacebut also on the overall perception and combines with cultural factors, and finally getsthe planar elements and symbol spaces.Chapter5, this chapter studies the modern mountainous city micro public spaceunder the adaptability of the evolution process. Fist by the analysis of the modern city’sevolution and modern needs, and by the investigation of a famous mountainous cityarea, also combines with the achievements above, this chapter gets the evolutionprocess and its spatial essential relationship, and promotes the typical model ofmountainous city.Chapter6, in order to continuing the characteristics of the mountainous city, andunder the guidance of the adaptability theory, this chapter promotes the designprinciples and strategies of the mountainous city micro public spaces.Chapter7, this chapter analysis the three actual cases of micro public space design,in order to emphasis the theme of this paper.
