Traditional Rammered earth building is widely used in the vast rural areas of China,with many advantage that modern buildings can not match, Eco-friendly features, goodheat preservation and convenient construction, eristic, but the basic material has thedefect in the strength and durability, causes severely destroyed in previous earthquakes.So how to improve the mechanical properties of traditional rammed earth building is thefocus of the study.This article basing on rammered earth materials, through experiments andtheoretical analysis, puts forward the concept of the rammered earth mixture and a newrammered earth building. The rammered earth mixture is a meterial making up from acertain percentage of soil, sand and stones. new rammered earth building refers to userammered earth mixture and the new mechanical ramming process to build up.The paper first discusses the improved mechanism of mixture and its basicphysical properties.Then carries out the cube compressive strength tests with different proportion,different particle size distribution and different cement content in rammered earthmixture, reserches the compressive strength with different factors, identifies the mostreasonable design, Elaborates compression failure mechanism. The Experiment showsthat when mixture ratio is6:1:3, the compression strength is the highest; greatermaximum diameter can get higher strength; cement can remarkable improve thecompression strength of mixture. Meanwhile through compression test of rammed earthprism, we can get rammed earth wall elastic modulus.On the experiments basis, we use abaqus software to analysis new rammered earthbuilding under the gravity and seismic stress, and compared with the calculation results of the traditional rammed earth building. Results show that the global stiffness of newrammered building than traditional one has increased, the displacement and stress haves certain reduced.Finally this paper introduces the practice work of using new mechanical rammingprocess, including equipments improvement and specific practice operational processes.This paper as a innovation on the traditional rammer earth buildings, has importantmeaning in inproving the seismic behavior of rammered earth buildings. At the sametime through the feasibility study of the new ramming process, we hope to lay thefoundation for the promotion and application in China rural areas.
