Community Agriculture And Ecological Settlements Construction

At present, China is faced with increasing degree of urbanization, while decreasing the number of arable land, reducing food safety and other problems. To relieve the above problems, the study intends to propose a new kind of ecological settlement model, the construction process of which involves community agriculture.In this model, as an indispensable part of the settlements ecosystems, agriculture can contribute to the reclamation of organic wastes in settlements, production of agricultural products, which promote efficient use of land in settlements. At first, the paper introduces the concept, main types and development of community agriculture and ecological settlement with examples, analyzes and summarizes its effectiveness and obstacles to development. Secondly, based on the research of community agriculture and ecological settlement, the study describes the feasibility of a combination of them, and proposes a new model of it further. Then establish a system model for it referring to relevant cases, such as Greenhouse Village in the Netherland and Viikki in Helsinki. At last, the study summarizes the technical system of the new settlements considering existing technologies of community agriculture and ecological settlement, then makes a related design with statistics in Tianjin Eco-City. As a part of urban agriculture, community agriculture has completed a number of research results and case in foreign, while still mostly spontaneous behavior of residents interiorly. So hope this study can provide new ideas for the planning and design of eco-settlements, as well as the use of land.
