Numerous Taoist gardens are well preserved in China, while rising anddeveloping along with Taoism. Taoist gardens were built by extraordinaryarchitecture, configuration, and scenery. Among these special arts, Yuquan Taoisttemple is fully influenced by the philosophy of Taoism, which exhibits by overallarrangement, space construction, building formulation, and sight details.Amoung the numerous research literatures about palaces and temples, even thearchitectures of garden courtyards are always attracts the points of researchers,however, the spatial distribution is ignored. Actually, in the palaces and gardens, it iswell worth researching for spatial arts. This thesis mainly subjects to Yuquan templeof Hua mountain, analyzes the spatial series, composition, and scales of the templeby real measurements and illustrations. Located at the most south point of YuquanLu in Huayin city, Shaanxi province, the temple is known as a famous Taoist gardenof Quanzhen group. While lying under Hua mountain, the garden embraces amazingheight ancient trees, and one mouth of spring with sugary fountain. Since thearchitectures are nicely conserved, the spatial arrangement and measurement ofgarden scenery are valued to be investigated from the view of art. This thesis focusesthe investigation on spatial arrangement and measurement of Yuquan Taoist templethrough the following items:Firstly, the historic background, styles of garden, and the geographical locationare generally introduced, and the site selection natural factors and anthropoconnotation are analyzed. Next, the relationships between Taoism and Yuquan temple is induced by thefoundation of Taoism and the summarization of its doxy. The belief of the temple isacknowledged. The investigation is mainly focused on the influences of Taoismideology to the garden distribution, architecture, sight detail, and culture carrier ofthe Yuquan temple.Then, the spatial organization series is investigated by the survey of Yuquantemple spatial garden. Summarize the composed spatial formations by each spatialcomposition factor. The measurement datum is coordinated and the composed spacesof real sizes are analyzed. The impacts are given to people through the spirits in thelocal real circumstances.Finally, the protection of the Yuquan temple is concerned from protectioncontents, implementations, and meanings. The values and characteristics of art areexpatiated, and the unresolved problems are left for people.
