Material is essential to be one of any major elements of building design. Timberas one material has been used by the traditional building material for thousands of years.Under the background of exhibition pavilion of "Deutchland und China" located atQingdao Technological University, as the understanding of the reason, timber is still oneof the favorite materials of architects, the most important one is the superior quality inthe wooden construction and aesthetics. Meanwhile, following the development ofsociety, the demands of function and space in modern architecture have been changedgreatly. The certainty that the contemporary timber buildings have the widespreadadaptability will be a research subject of fully meaning.In this essay, it can be seen that the main factors, which are the forest resources,the special social and cultural background, the development of science and technologyas well as the change of living styles, led to the improvement of timber building,according to the analysis of the application and development during the timberbuildings’ history. Through the analysis above all, firstly, on the base of the progress ofmodern material and structural technology, the material and space are researched by theargument of classification and example. Secondly, the deep-seated cultural connotationwill be researched. Finally, the widespread adaptability is proved to be right forcontemporary timber buildings, according to the research of material, space and culture.The ultimate goal is that the timber buildings will appear new vitality, whichmaking the comteporory architecture in china to be more polynary, characteristical andhumane.
