The Doubly Salient Electromagnetic Generator (DSEG) has a set of excitation on the stator side, comparing with the Switched Reluctance Motor, making the field adjustable. With no windings on therotor side, the motor has a simple structure and reliable operation. This paper will analyze the motorused as a low-speed direct-drive generator, especially in the motor’s body design. This paper gives a detailed analysis of the magnetic circuit of the DSEG. Setting the stator-pole’swidth as the base, comprise and analyze the features of the motor’s magnetic circuit in different heightof stator-yoke, stator-pole, rotor-pole and rotor-yoke. Comprise the external characteristics, output, efficiency and weight of the motors with different structure parameters by simulation. Optimize themotor’s structure and draw some rules of the DSEG in using in the low-speed, high-power windgeneration.Especially study the characteristics of the DSEG with the same inner diameter of the stator butdifferent poles in none-load, output, efficiency and weight. Such motors have different length ofmagnetic circuits and amounts of iron, resulting in the different magnetic saturation and the armatureinductance, and demonstrating a certain law, which will help determine the appropriate number of themotor poles.DSEG used in low-speed, high-power wind generation system, has a problem of how to balancethe motor efficiency and weight under the premise of ensuring the motor output to meet therequirements. Low-speed high-power motor having a large diameter, with a large air gap and largeexcitation power, is bound to reduce its efficiency. And the motor’s field windings and armaturewindings are both in the stator side, as a result it need large stator slots, which means a large core sizeand weight.Topics covered in this paper give a basic research for the DSEG to be used in low-speed, directdrive, high-power wind generation system. As a theoretical exploration, provide a reference to themotor design methods.
