Pumping units are the main equipments which drawing oil from the well to the ground in the oil field, the number of the equipment is more than 90% of the total equipments, and the beam pumping units are most widely used. In this thesis, the conventional beam pumping unit is studied, the structure optimization design of of the beam’s weight has been made, and the stress analysis and fatigue analysis have been made based on the foundation of optimization, which make use of the large-scale finite element analysis software ANSYS11.0.In this thesis, the mathematical model has been established of the smallest beam quality firstly, and then using the method of penalty function of outside points to optimize the mathematical model, and using the software MATLAB to solve. The optimization results have been obtained, show good results of the optimization, that after optimizing the beam’s mass has decreased 5% than before.Secondly, the stress analysis and fatigue analysis have been made of the beam, which make use of the module ANSYS Workbench in ANSYS11.0. In this process the beam three-dimensional model has been established by the software UG NX4.0, and then imported into the platform of ANSYS Workbench, the finite element model have been established and the restraints have been exerted. And the model has been analyzed and compared in the same load conditions.
