In17-18th century, Europe is mainly prevalent in Chinoiserie. This kind ofChinoiserie is based on the European’s imaginative interpretation of Chinoiserie. Itis a kind of art style created by Europeans and mainly displays in the field ofdecorative art and emphasizes the exotic. France is the lader of the Chinoiserie. Tosome extent, design of this art style is France-centered and spread to other Europeancountries. As one of the representatives of French luxury brand, Cartier hasexperienced from jewellery retailer to the manufacturer to final jewelrycustomization. According to the analysis of historical development and styles ofCartier, we know that at different times Cartier has different style works and at onetime it’s work has taken the lead. Especially the works influenced by Chinoiserie inthe Art Deco period which learn from the processing and function transformation ofChinese artwork, and the color, subject, material and craft of Chinoiserie. This let usfeel the Chinese and Western cultures meet in a different time and space, blending, and shinning out beautiful sparks.Through analysis of the Cartier works influenced by Chinoiserie, we havemade a summary of the influence of these works on China. And this aware us theproblems encountered by the Chinese jewelry industry: First, Chinese jewelryindustry hasn’t paid enough attention to the design; Second, we have design but donot meet the requirements of development of the jewelry industry in China. If ourjewelry industry wants to make a progress, first we must learn from the good brandcases and explore our own advantages and characteristics. Using more Chinesetraditional element is the key to improve modern character design and occupy themarket. Secondly, as Chinese jewelry, we should also take a good use of our uniqueprocessing method, and combined with the times. We need to re-understandChinese elements, re-think the definition of Chinese elements and re-know Chinoiserie jewelry, so that to provide ideas and methods to find the jewelry designpositioning in China. At last, based on the analysis of the Cartier works and my understanding ofthe status of the Chinese jewelry industry today, we need to understand Chinoiseriejewelry which I conclude to such a formula:Chinoiserie jewelry=Chinese element+modern thinking and aesthetic+modern technology+futuristic feeling.
