As a traditional weaving material, wool is widely used in fields such as clothing and accessories due to its advantages in visual sense, tactile sense and processing. However, its advantages fail to be fully applied to the field of furniture design, so as to result in low usage rate and additional value. Based on the cognition of wool and the characteristics of wool, especially its physical properties, the paper carries out an in-depth study on the application relation among wool components, wool and chair, and probes into the application method.In China, wool is of wide resource, large output and assorted varieties, which provides abundant material conditions for the application of wool to chair design. According to fiber composition, it can be divided into natural fiber and artificial fiber; according to manufacturing technique, it can be divided into combed wool, semi-combed wool and carded wool. Different types of wool are possessed of different applied characteristics.The properties of wool affect its application. The count affects the thickness and roughness of the fabric, i.e. the larger the count is, the thinner the wool will be, the thinner the fabric is, the finer it will be, and vice versa. The linear density affects the textile processing, product quality, physical and mechanical properties, and hand feeling. The strength and elongation of wool affects the quality of stressed part of the furniture, i.e. the larger the elongation is, the lower the strength will be, to cause laxity. The moisture regain affects moisture absorption, i.e. natural fiber with large moisture regain is used for moisture absorption, and synthetic fiber with small moisture regain is suitable for humid environment. The colors of wool enrich visual sense and pattern formulation. The texture of wool affects tactile sense and visual sense in this way:as for rough texture, it feels soft and looks plain, dignified and humanistic; as for fine texture, it feels smooth and looks gorgeous, noble and classy.The components of wool affect its additional value in chairs. Wool arranges and generates into linear and interweaving structure. According to the arrangement direction of lines, linear wool includes parallel, emanative, geometrical and unordered wool; interweaving wool includes weaving and crossing wool, so that wool lines tightly form into a surface. To meet more important demand, the designer will combine soft component with padding component as far as possible; wool component and chair can be combined in following ways:frame weaving, coating, winding, punching, framing, hanging and fastening. Decorative combination requires irregular randomness between wool and other parts of the chair; while stressed combination requires large strength and low elongation of wool, as well as the tight integration with the frame. The color of wool chair determines the usage occasion of the furniture, the texture of wool produces a sense of space and layer, and wool is of soft texture and light weight; the combination of wool and wood produces natural pastoral style and concise modern style; the combination of wool and metal forms into exquisite European style and modern style; the combination of wool and plastics brings about good shaping capacity and low pnce.
