On The Six Dynasties’ Costume And The Romantic Spirit

Clothing fashion of the aristocratic family class in the Six Dynasties showed its features of times. According to the large amount of images and documents, the author is going to analyze the relationship between the clothing fashion of the Six Dynasties and the spirit of the aristocratic families in the Six Dynasties. The costume’s design and its artistic style showed that there were two tendencies in this era. One is "zhu lin feng" as the author named, represented a style for which the scholars were so neglectful of their appearances. The other here is named as "yin rou feng". yin rou in Chinese language is used to describe female. But a great number of people from the aristocratic families in this era behaved as female, especially in terms of dress. In addition, for the study of the upper-class women’s clothes, amount of images and documents were also used to proof that women in the six dynasties gained more freedom, so that the upper-class women’s clothes developed and changed.In this thesis, there are three chapters. Each chapter is respectively divided into three sections. In the first section, many great works of image and sculpture left from the Six Dynasties were listed.(mainly with figure painting and sculpture)The relationship between these works and clothing fashion of the Six Dynasties is discussed in this first section. The second section includes clothing, art works, thoughts of time, and their relationships. The third section is written as a key section to discuss the forms of clothes and the culture behind forms. By all the arguments, as the author tried to demonstrate, clothing fashion of the aristocratic family class in the six dynasties illustrated the romantic spirit of freedom in the Six Dynasties.
