Manufacturing And Performance Investigation On Flame-Retardant Knitted Mattress Fabric

With the development of times and people’s living standard, mattress fabrics of household textiles plays an important role. Mattress fabrics covered on the upper of bed, so the fabrics require special properties, not only the elegant flower type, also good shape retention, covering performance and strong concavity, high strength which can bear proper load, have good bursting resistance, air and moisture permeability, and flame retardation.This paper studies the preparation methods of different flame-retardant yarns for knitted mattress fabric as well as the wearing properties and flame retardant properties.The main research contents and results are as follows:(1) Selection of yarns and pre-processingFirst, three type of yarns including the aramid/fire-retardant viscose yarn, polysulfonamide yarn and polysulfonamide/fire-retardant viscose yarn were chosen. The low strength of yarns, strong yarn rigidity, high friction coefficient and more yarn hairiness will produce the defect hole and even be difficult in manufacturing process of mattress cloth on a circular knitting machine. For that will affect the appearance of mattress fabric, the author made a waxing treatment on the yarn, so that the unevenness hairiness in yarn can attach onto the yarn, the yarn rigidity reduced, softness of the yarn increased, friction coefficient reduced, which will be beneficial to the success of knitted mattress cloth production.(2) Design and preparation of knitted mattress clothThis paper designs two kinds of mattress fabrics for the wearing comfortable and flame retardant properties of bed cloth, main structure is divided into upper layer (the obverse side of mattress fabric) and lower layer (the reverse side of mattress fabric with fire retardant layer). With flame retardant yarn and inflame retardant yarn as raw materials, Four kinds of flame-retardant knitted mattress fabrics based on double blister and quilted structure were designed and manufactured. The lower layers of mattress cloths are made of aramid, polysulfonamide/fire-retardant viscose or aramid/fire-retardant viscose yarn loops, and the upper layers of mattress cloths (the exposure of human skin) are mainly polyester or viscose yarn loops.(3) Wearing properties of knitted mattress fabricThe author tested and compared the insulation, air and moisture permeability, drape and crease resistance, bursting, elasticity, abrasion and pilling properties of four different mattress cloths. The results show:quilted mattress fabric is the worst in air permeability, moisture permeability, drape and abrasion resistance, but the best in insulation, bursting, elasticity, pilling resistance; the double blister mattress fabric with fire-retardant-layer of pure aramid is good in drape and crease resistance, while the other properties are slightly worse; the double blister mattress fabric with fire-retardant-layer of polysulfonamide/fire-retardant viscose is best in the air permeability, but the worst in the bursting performance; the double blister mattress fabric with fire-retardant-layer of aramid/fire-retardant viscose has the worst insulation resistance and crease resistance, but best moisture permeability, drapability and wear resistance.(4) Flame retardant properties of knitted mattress fabricThe vertical burning test method was used for three single-jersey knitted flame retardant fabrics. The results indicate:for the fabrics with same flame retardant yarn but different densities, the greater density, the flame retardant property is better; comparing the fabrics with same density but different flame retardant yarns, polysulfonamide fiber fabric is better than aramid fiber one on flame retardant properties.The horizontal burning test method was used for four kinds of mattress cloths. The results indicate:the double blister mattress fabric with the reverse side of polysulfonamide is the best in flame retardancy, which is followed by the double blister mattress fabric with the reverse side of polysulfonamide/fire-retardant viscose, the third is the double blister mattress fabric with the reverse side of aramid/fire-retardant viscose and the worst is the quilted mattress fabric with the reverse side of polysulfonamide/fire-retardant viscose. The polyester filament yarns in the quilted mattress fabric caused melt during the combustion, resulted in poor fire retardation.
