| Coated carbide insert is characterized by high hardness and good abrasion resistance, which is broadly used in advanced manufacturing areas such as high speed cutting, dry cutting, minimum quantity lubrication cutting. Drills with carbide indexable inserts are increasingly widely used in the area of holes machining. Chips discharging performance is one of the most important factors to evaluate the drill’s cutting performance. The chips discharging performance has a great effect on cutting stability, and work-piece surface quality. The most situations of its failure are because the chips can’t fluently discharge, it make the flock slot jam, lead to broken the tool rod, therefore, it’s necessary to optimize its structure, improve the chips discharge performance of the chip flute, enhance the rigidity and strength of the tool rod, and prolong its service life.Study the chip formation feature in the cutting by drills with carbide indexable inserts. Analyze the difference of the chip formation feature between the internal blade and external blade and the morphology of the different chips. And introduce the measures that can improve the chips discharging performance when drilling.Improved the chip flutes on the similar domestic products, put forward the chip flute deviated the axis. It proved that there is8%increase in space of the chip flute than the original by numerical calculation. It found that its stiffness is reduced by less than3%by Finite Element Analysis. It confirmed its chip discharging performance has been improved in the experiment.Selected the appropriate cutting parameters for the drilling experiment, and researched the effect of the feed rate and cutting speed on the chips discharging performance. Proved the using characteristic of the drills with carbide indexable inserts is "the low feed rate and the high cutting speed". |
