Compared with other artificial lifting technologies, progressing cavity pumping(ESPCP) technology is especially suitable for the operation of viscous oil well and highlycontained sand oil well,as well as it has some advantages that include simple structure,easy operation,efficiency and save energy and impropriated plantation smallness,etc. Inthe past two decade, the technology has achieved rapid development and became the mainfuture review of oil production. In the future research, how to improve the pump efficiencyand prolong the economical run-life will play an important role for extensive application ofthe technology. The pump efficiency and economical run-life are affected directly by rotorspeed in the ESPCP operation process. The rotor speed is taken lower, the advantage ofefficiency and save energy can not be reflect. If it is controlled to high level, it will causethe pump burning and shorten the service life. Therefore, the rotor speed should bereasonably adjusted according to different underground mining environment and differentmining demand.The impacting mechanism of the PCP rotor speed on the volumetric efficiency isexpounded in detail. Then, the ESPCP advantages of high efficiency and energy savingwill be played better. In the last of this paper, the factors affecting the rotor speed ofESPCP and the relationship are analyzed adequately. Based on the principle of ArtificialNeural Network (ANN), the optimal compatible model between rotor speed and the fourfactors, such as oil viscosity, differential pressure, volumetric efficiency and mechanicalefficiency, is established, which solve the nonlinear optimization problem caused by thosecoupling of multiple factors above. Output rotor speed simulation is realized by applyingMATLABTM. The conclusions can be shown from the simulating results, the precision ofrotor speed forecasting model can meet the requirements of ESPCP operation. Therefore,establishing the optimal rotor speed forecasting model through ANN is substantial toresearch the control of rotor optimization of ESPCP. In this paper, the factors affecting theESPCP volumetric efficiency and mechanical efficiency are analyzed. Based on the application of theoretical formula, the effect principle of rotor speed on the volumetricefficiency is summed up. The technological measurements are made to improve two kindsof efficiency of ESPCP by way of controlling the rotor speed.
