Wood-plastic composites (WPC) is a new type of material which mainly use the wood orwood fiber as based materials, and compound with plastic or a variety of plastic. WPCovercame the faults of single materials, and possess the quality of wood and plastic. So itscomprehensive performance is excellent. Now there is more and more study on thermoplasticwood-plastic composite materials. Compared with the thermoplastic wood-plastic compositematerials, thermosetting wood-plastic composite materials have better mechanical properties, electrical properties, bonding properties, heat resistance and corrosion resistance because ofthe characteristics of the thermosetting resin. But thermosetting wood-plastic compositematerial also has its inherent shortcomings. Such as brittleness, and the impact resistance andstress cracking ability is poor. Therefore, in-depth study of thermosetting wood-plasticcomposite materials becomes necessary. In this paper, we adopt furan resin and wood materials as raw materials, use thetraditional hot pressing to prepare furan/wood composites. We also measure its mechanicalproperties, hardness, water absorption and water corrosion rate. The microscopic structure ofimpact fracture is studied by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The curing mechanism ofthe materials was detailed analyzed. We also study the most appropriate amount of curingagent, the affect of curing reaction of furan resin with acidity of wood materials, and theaffect of molding temperature, molding time, amount of wood materials as well as types ofwood materials on composites’ properties. The experimental results indicated that: the optimum amount of curing agent is the ratioof furan resin and curing agent is 5:1; the wood materials rendered acidic after being dried, but cannot make the curing reaction of furan resin occur; when the molding temperature is70℃, the molding time is 2h, the amount of bamboo powder and pine powder is 40%, thecomposites have better performance; the performance of furan resin/bamboo powdercomposites is superior to the furan resin/pine powder composite; the impact fracture ofcomposites made under molding temperature of 70℃and 90℃were observed by SEM. Theresults show that, when the molding temperature is 70℃, the composites have the smallestcross-section roughness and phase interface is rather ambiguous and almost show no porosityat the cross-section, while the results is the opposite when the molding temperature is 90℃;the impact fracture of composites which have 30%、40% and 50% amount of bamboo powderrespectively were observed by SEM, the results indicate that the interface is more uniform andhave less porosity when the amount of bamboo powder is 40%, when the amount of bamboopowder is 30% and 50%, the results is the opposite.
