Ring rolling is a kind of special forming technology to manufacture rings. And it is alocal and continuous rolling technology. It has characteristics of economy, highproducing rate, low cost and high quality. This forming technology is used widely inindustrial fields. With the improvement of industries, cylindrical workpieces are usedwidely in aviation aerospace field and the nuclear power industry, but the rolling processof cylindrical workpiece affected by many parameters is characterized by 3-D,continuous progressive changes, regional deformation, non-linearity, unsteady state,asymmetry, multiple pass. At present, the relative researches of cylindrical workpiecesrolling are few, which results in that there is lack of theoretic guidelines in the actualrolling production, and seriously restricts the further development and application of thistechnique.Based on the theory of small ring rolling, the mechanical and kinematic conditionsof large cylindrical workpiece were researched in this paper. And the reasonable rangesof feed speeds of mandrel and rotational speed of main roll were determined. Theresearch results prvided valuable guidelines for selection of the simulation and the rollingparameters in the actual rolling production.Based on the existed theory and the finite element method, the 3D finite elementmodel was constructed by using DEFORM software. And it researched bite condition andthe relationship between friction and bite condition. According to the theoretical ofpenetration in small ring rolling, the 3D finite element model of penetration wasconstructed by using DEFORM software. The penetration courses with different feedswere simulated, and corresponding distribution of platic zones was analyzed. Then thedistribution rules of plastic zone in penetrating process and the influenceing law that feedact on penetration were researched.Based on the reality datas, a 3D FE model of cylindrical workpiece was exploredusing and its reliality was verified. Using FE simulation and analysis, the distribution andevolution laws of the strain, temperature, force and power parameter of large cylindrical workpiece rolling were investigated on the deformation mechanism of arge cylindricalworkpiece rolling. And then the effect laws of blank size and rolls movements weregained from many simulations. The study results provided useful guidelies for the designand optimization of the rolling parameters in the actual cylindrical workpiece rollingproduction.
