Ring rolling is a special technology designed to produce seamless ring structures, it rolls roughcasts of smaller diameter and thicker section to ring structures with bigger diameter and thinner section, and it is irreplaceable due to its advantages over forging and other technics , such as labor saving, energy saving, material saving, high productivity, superior dimensional precision, qualified inner structure of rings, high stock utilization, and so on .The processing of ring rolling has the properties of plate rolling, asynchronous rolling, multi-pass rolling and the coupling of these factors. That makes ring rolling difficult to analyze. In this article, strip element method is used to large ring rolling since it is well applied in the hot plate rolling. The complete mathematical model is established and a new effective method, which is used to simulate the process of ring rolling, is formed.In the article, thickness of the displacement function is established which is based on the features of ring rolling. The new formulas of friction and rolling force are fixed because of existence of asynchronous rolling area. Metal flow rate, strain rate, three-dimensional stress and tensile stress before and after in the deformation zone are available, which are in accordance with the strip method of thinking. Then total energy is fixed. At last, metal displacement function is fixed utilized minimum energy method. At the meantime, the distribute of total rolling force, unit rolling force, metal flowing and strain are available in the deformation zone.In order to make sure of the correctness of the calculation model, finite element simulation is carried out. The finite element simulation is based on DEFORM software. The calculation model is proved by comparing the calculation result and simulation result. So the calculation model can be used to engineering calculation.
