In this paper, three issues is studied, the numeric simulation of the typhoonwave, the ocean wave spectrum and the spatial distribution of the ocean wave field.First, the Holland model is employed to parameterize the No.6Typhoon Molavein2009, then the model wind field and the background wind field(CCMP) iscombined by a weight coefficient to construct the wind field north of the SouthChina Sea when the typhoon was passing. The wind field is then interpolated andinputted to the SWAN model with the spatial resolution of5′×5′and thetemporal step of1h, to simulate the wave field north of the South China Sea whenMolave was passing. Subsequently,we utilize the Jason-2satellite wave height datato verify the model, and it shows a good agreement between the model results andthe measured values. With the model results we analyzed the spatial relationshipbetween the Typhoon center and the maximum significant wave height center, together with the relationship between the structure of the Typhoon and that of thewave field. In the end, the dynamic mechanism of the wave field when the typhoonwas passing is studied by comparing the computed wave energy with the wind factorand the wave factor. Then, we construct two wave spectra which are suitable for the northern partof the South China Sea, one for the ordinary sea condition with the WaveRider dataand the other for high sea condition with the model output data. For lack of theobservations of the fetch, we first get the fetch suitable for the northern part of theSouth China Sea with the existing relation of spectrum parameter dependence.Followed by the least squares fitting, we obtain the modified relation of the zeroorder of the moment and the peak frequency, and the new relation of the width ofthe spectrum. At last, we put these relations into the three-parameter spectrum, andwe get the wave spectrum for the northern part of the South China Sea. Finally, we analyze the characteristics of the spatial distribution of the wavefield and the seasonal variations of wave field in the northern part of the SouthChina Sea with the AVISO merged satellite wave height data, and then give thedynamic mechanism of the wave field.
