The wolf spider family Lycosidae is a common group in the eco-system of agricultural area and forest. It is one of the largest spider families, including120genera,2393species throughout the world and23genera,292species from China. Alopecosa and Arctosa are two largest genera of Lycosidae, only less than Pardosa and Lycosa. There are162known species of Alopecosa from the world and43species from China, and168species of Arctosa worldwide and30species from China. Because of the individuals of Alopecosa and Arctosa have quite similar body characteristics and strongly sclerotized copulatory organs, the species identification is very difficult and the known taxonomic system is quite confusing. Other than many revisional works were done by some foreign arachnologists, most of Chinese taxonomic studies were focused on the description of new taxa or some taxa new to science, which caused more taxonomic problems, such as synonyms, misidentifications etc. and definitely hampered the further theoritic research and practical application of Chinese wolf spiders.Based on the results of some foreign arachnologists and the examination of a great deal of Chinese materials newly collected and loaned, we made a detailed review on totally38Alopecosa and Arctosa species. A new genus, Spinarctosa gen. nov. is erected on the type of Arctosa ningboensis Yin, Bao&Zhang,1996, two other new species described here and even two Japanese and South Korean Arctosa species. Nine new species are described here:Alopecosa garzensis sp. nov., Alopecosa taibaishanensis sp. nov., Arctosa cuspidata sp. nov., Arctosa latizona sp. nov., Arctosa motuoensis sp.nov., Arctosa subkiangsiensis sp.nov., A. subserrulata sp. nov., Spinarctosa songi sp. nov. and Spinarctosa yaanensis sp. nov.. One misidentification are found and4new synonyms are pointed out:Arctosa amylaceoides (Schenkel,1936)=A. khudiensis (Sinha,1951)=A. vaginalis Yu&Song,1988, A binalis Yu&Song, 1988=A. depectinata (Bosenberg&Strand,1906), A. tridentata Chen&Song,1999=A. springiosa Yin et al.,1993. Additionally,4species groups are proposted for16Arctosa species:A. kiangsiensis-group, A. recurva-group, A. serrulata-group and A. subamylacea-group. Totally38illustration plates of genitelia,38photographic plates of habitus and copulatory organs,12plates of SEM photos,3photographic plates of6species and6distribution maps are given. The aim of this paper is to revise most species of Chinese Alopecosa and Arctosa and made a preparation of the revision of those two genera worldwide and Chinese wolf spiders.
