The existence of spatial conflicts result in the accuracy, precision and clarity of expressionof spatial information are affected seriously. Therefore, only the spatial conflicts are detectedrapidly, comprehensively, and effectively, could we ensure the quality of the expression of spatialdata and the cartography. However, the automatic detection of spatial conflicts has always been adifficulty in the field of generalization and the continuous updating for spatial database. Furthermore, the degree of automation is the lowest. In view of these, this paper explores the detection method for spatial conflicts in multi-scaledatabase. To sum up, its main works and innovation are reflected in the following areas:(1)A model of the detection for spatial conflicts based on the consistency of the spatialrelationship is established. The causation and connotation of spatial conflicts in the multi-scaledatabase are both analyzed. On the base of these, the mode is established. At the same time, some key technologies are expounded in order to achieve the model.(2)A matching method for objectives in multi-scale database based on grid index isimproved. The matching types of linear objects are summarized. Based on the positive andnegative matching idea, the calculation of grid appropriation is optimized, in order to solve thetough problem of the many-to-many matching relationships.(3)The description and calculation of topological relations between linear objects based onthe nine-intersection model are discussed. The relation and the law between the types oftopological relations are analyzed. In order to achieve the computation of these topologicalrelations, an efficient arithmetic is designed.(4)A conflicts judgement rule based on the evaluation levels of topological consistency isdesigned. The membership function between the evaluation levels of topological consistency andtopological conflicts is established. Then, some rules are designed in order to achieve thejudgment for topological conflicts.(5)A conflicts confirmation rule based on the abstract laws of topological relations. Theabstract laws of the topological relations during the process of multi-scale representation aresummarized. In order to achieve the confirmation for topological conflicts, some equivalenttransformation rules for topological relations are designed.(6)An experiment of detecting spatial conflicts between multi-scale road networks iscarried out.
