Birds surveys were conducted in the karst area of southwestern Guangxi from November2009to February2011,13nature reserves belong to9cites (or counties) were included. Based on the fild work, further study was conducted. The main contents include three aspects:bird diversity and distribution in the karst area, and nestedness of bird assemblages in the karst forest fragments of southwestern Guangxi. The main results were as follows:1. A total of223bird species was recorded, belonging to55families and22orders. Of them, forest birds is much more than waterbirds, and the Passeriformes account for65.0%. Bird community composed mainly of Ardeidae, Accipitridae, Cuculidae, Turdidae, Muscicapidae, Timaliidae and Sylviidae. For species diversity index (G-F index) of the six habitats, the rank was:rain forest> Broad-leaved forest> shrub> wetland> farmland> shrub-meadow. The results were reflecting bird diversity of southwestern Guangxi in a certain time scale. Avifauna analysis suggested that the most birds is in the South China Region and showed a significant features of the North-tropical, this is a typically characteristics of birds in southwest Guangxi.2. According to data on bird distribution, the13nature reserves were classified into seven groups by Cluster analysis method:Bapen and Banli, Huanglianshan and Laohutiao, Encheng and Xialei, Qinglongshan and Chunxiu and Gulongshan and Nonggang, Diding, Bangliang, Longhushan. Due to the difference on geographical location, vegetation and nature resource, the bird composition is various among13reserves. It is reflect the adaptability of birds in different habitats, and provide us a targeted way to protect birds.3. BINMATNEST software was used to analysis the nestedness of bird assemblages in the karst forest fragments. The results show that bird distribuion in karst area of southwestern Guangxi is nested patterns. Spearman’s rank correlation coefficients indicate that only habitat specificity has significant effect on bird nestedness while others three habitat features and three life-history traits have no significant effect on bird nestedness. Based on the characteristics of the seasonal tropical rain forests in this area and the neutral theory, possible reasons were given.Advices on bird protection were also being given:make more efforts and guide to bird protection, and to highlight the management. Further more, to contract with nature reserve of Vietnam side, and to improve the ability of collaborate protection.
