Consumption is the most basic functions of human survival and development, and isalso the basic power of the society progresses, so the consumption problem occupies avery important status in the whole human production and life. Being the core categoryof consumption, consumption structure is important part of consumption issue, and itdoes not only visually reflect the contents, quantity and level of consumption, but italso ultimately determines the quality of life of residents, Therefore, the analysis onconsumption structure contributes to comprehend difference of living quality ofresidents and proclaim variation tendency of social consumption structure to helpresidents optimize the consumption structure and reduce differences of living standardsin order to improve residents' quality of life comprehensively.As the only municipality directly under the central government in western China,Chongqing has rapid development of economy and income of urban-rural residentslevel after the reform and opening up, especially after directly under the jurisdiction ofcentral government. Meanwhile, the increasingly income gap between urban and ruralresidents changes the consumption structure of urban and rural residents by the changeof disposable income level. Therefore, this thesis descriptively analyzes the historyprocess, influencing factors and status of consumption structure of urban and ruralresidents of Chongqing through qualitative and quantitative method by choosing themeasure index of mainstream consumption structure, also empirically studies theconsumption structure according to ELES. Furthermore, it summarizes the changingprocess and developing regulation of consumption structure of urban and ruralresidents to predict the consumption structure in next five years. The thesis ultimatelyconcludes that the consumption structure of urban and rural residents presentsconvergence while expanding consumption difference and it still has some differencein consumption level. Then author suggests some upgraded measures for theconsumption structure of rural residents to bridge the consumption level gap for theconsumption structure of urban and rural residents developing rationally. The paperincludes five main contents as followed:(1) The first part introduces research background and significance, research idea,method and some innovations, and also defines some important concepts such asconsumption, consumption structure and so on.(2) In the second part, this chapter reviews the consumption structure of Chongqing rural-urban residents before Chongqing city becoming an independently administeredmunicipal district firstly, then make analysis of consumption structure of Chongqingrural-urban residents around the time of Chongqing becoming an independentlyadministered municipal district.(3) In the third part, we comprehensively analyze economic factors which consist ofincome level of rural-urban residents, price level and industrial structure andnon-economic factors which consist of society, family, and consumption environment.(4) In the fourth part, this part is one of the most important parts in this paper, thispart firstly presents and compares the extended linear expenditure system and thelinear expenditure system which are used for empirical Study of consumption structureby domestic scholars. In this paper we choose the extended linear expenditure systemas the best analysis model and draw a conclusion, and reveal problems and causepresented in Chongqing rural-urban residents' consumption structure.(5) In the fifth part, this chapter chooses absolute income hypothesis to make aprediction, and make scientific analysis toward the results of prediction.(6) At the last part, we lodge some countermeasures to improve rural residents'consumption structure. This chapter firstly gives a definition and description torationalization standards and rules of consumption structure of residents.
