Innovation is enterprises'eternal development proposition. Enterprises rely on all kinds of innovation activities, and strive to enhance the innovation performance. As the pillar industry of one country's national economy, manufacturing industry is the primary sector carrying out innovation activities. However, the innovation performance of the vast majority of manufacturing enterprises is still low, which seriously hinders the pace of enterprises' development. Therefore, the promotion of manufacturing enterprises'innovation performance is an urgent issue and worth of close attention.R&D activity has been considered to be the prerequisite and the main source of enterprise innovation. In fact, the innovation activity of an enterprise can be broadly divided into R&D activity and non-R&D activity which refers to a variety of creative activities that not based the formal R&D. That is to say, R&D is not the only way to innovation, non-R&D activity is also a kind of important ways of innovation. Therefore, this research started from the non-R&D activity, focusing on the impact of three most common non-R&D activities of manufacturing enterprises (design, training, the use of advanced production technology) on the enterprises'innovation performance. This research overcame the limitation of R&D activity equivalent to innovation activity, and provided the basis of reasonable identification and using of the three kinds of non-R&D activities and improving innovation performance for manufacturing enterprises. On the basis of literature research, a theoretical analysis and an empirical research on the relationship among three kinds of non-R&D activities (design, training, the use of advanced production technology) and innovation performance were carried out. In order to test the corresponding theory hypothesis, this research selected manufacturing enterprises in China's Yangtze River Delta as research objects, collected data through the questionnaire so as to conduct the empirical research. At the same time, statistics tools such as SPSS 17.0 and Amos 17.0 were used to analyze the data, construct the structural equation model of three kinds of non-R&D activities and innovation performance, and verify the proposed hypotheses through paths relationship of model elements. The results showed that design and the use of advanced production technology have direct positive influence on innovation performance, training has indirect positive influence on innovation performance through affecting design and the use of advanced production technology. Finally, according to the results of this research, some countermeasures for reference about how to promote manufacturing enterprises'innovation performance were put forward.
