Since 1979, the year when China and US established formal diplomatic ties, the bilateral trade relations between these two countries has been developing very quickly. Their bilateral trade volume is continuously increasing:it was no more than 2.5 billion US dollars in 1979, but about 385.3 billion US dollars in 2010. The vigorous development of Sino-US trade promote the economic and friendship between them.However, with the expansion of Sino-US trade volume, their trade problems also increase:the intensifying of frequent trade friction, the increasing pressure on RMB appreciation and so forth. When all is said, Sino-US trade imbalances cause this situation. According to China's statistics, China has turned to surplus from deficit since 1993 in Sino-US trade balance. Meanwhile its favorable marks increase year by year:it was only 6.278 billion US dollars, but 181.268 billion US dollars in 2010. It increased about 30 times in 18 years. This rapid growth of China's favorable marks in Sino-US trade make US has crisis awareness. its trade protectionism make difficulties to the China's exported commodity. Such situation will bring serious adverse effects on the economies of these two countries in the long run.This paper will analysis the trade structure between China and US, and indicates it is the core cause of bilateral trade imbalance through exploring the phenomenon and the underlying data. And if the existing trade structure did not interfere with outside force and went it alone, Sino-US trade imbalance would worsen. This paper will give the policy recommendations of how to improve Sino-US trade imbalance situation on the basis of the factors which influence the bilateral trade structure.
