| Product development is more and more important for enterprise, but the effectiveness of product development in China is not optimistic. Although some groups of large enterprises have recognized the success of management for the importance of R & D projects, they have no specific experience in the implementation of efficient management, and the management system has not been set up. It is gratifying that, some Chinese enterprises have been aware of these issues, they established a set of product development systems which adapted for the international market and their own development, and continued to develop and expand rapidly by constant self-exploration and studying and absorbing the advanced experience of the celebrated foreign companies. Z Corporation is a typical representative of them.High Performance Product Development (HPPD) is one product development system which is created by the famous international PRTM company invited by Z Corporation to diagnose their own problems after the evaluation of the company. It is based on the Integrated Product Development (IPD) theory combined Z Corporation's own situation and include the newest product development management experience and theory emerged in recent years. Its core ideas can be summed up quickly develop competitive products.This paper focused on analyzing the core ideas, framework, function, and the implementation of HPPD system. The main content of the paper includes market management, product development, technical and platform development management, organizational structure, key activities and the results of these activities. At last it is summarized that the experience accumulated in implementation of HPPD in Z Corporation, which can be referenced extensively by other domestic enterprises.The paper is organized by four parts. The first part introduces the overview of product development management system, the Integrated Product Development (IPD) theory and the cases that Huawei and IBM launched of IPD. The second part tells the purpose of Z Corporation implementing HPPD and briefly describes the core ideas, framework and principles of HPPD. The third part focuses on key points to implement HPPD which include market management, product development optimization, implementation of portfolio management and technical and platform management. The part of product development optimization is discussed from four aspects of organizational structure optimization, process optimization, measurement system and control mechanisms optimization. The fourth section describes the timing plan and some critical points of Z Corporation implementing HPPD and some proposals which can be applied into optimization activities in the domestic enterprises. |
