The Chinese traditional filial piety generally consists of two parts, which arefilial piety of supporting the old and and funeral filial piety thought. The funeralfilial piety thought also consists of two parts, which are funeral and filial pietythereof. After historical development of thousands of years, funeral and filial pietythereof have become important parts of Chinese traditional thoughts and culture.Funeral and filial piety thereof are closely related, and deeply influence human life.What is funeral filial piety thought? How funeral filial piety thought is reflected in afuneral? We know that funeral filial piety thought is a complex and vast system, andit surely has positives significance and negtive influence, how to inherit and convertit in nowadays become a question. This thesis is aimed at answering those questions,hoping that it will help us to deeply understand Chinese traditional funeral filialpiety thought, to inherit and develop funeral filial piety thought, and to promote thecultural and ideological progress as well as the harmonious society establishment inthe contemporary era.Based on funeral in Dandong area of Liaoning Province, this thesis explains theorigin, content and heuristic procedure of Chinese traditional funeral and filial piety,and analyzes the relationship of funeral and filial piety. After concluding thepositive significance and negative influence of funeral filial piety thought, thisthesis tries to suggest how to inherit and convert funeral filial piety thought in thecontemporary era, and put forwards principles and content of inheritance andconversion.The survey procedure is applied in this thesis for collecting firsthandinformation about funeral in Dandong area and filial piety thereof. The documentarymethod is applied in this thesis for collecting corelative literatures, articles, thesesand so on, and then classifying and concluding those materials. Also, the historiclogic method and the system analysis method are applied in this thesis. Throughapplying those methods, this thesis innovationally puts forward principles ofobjectivity, combination of inheriting and criticizing, combination of inheriting andinnovating, as well as the people oriented ethical principle during the process ofinheriting and converting the funeral filial piety thought. The converting processshould be divided into two levels: on one hand, the trash part of funeral filial pietythought should be abandoned; on the other hand, the unreasonable part of funeralfilial piety thought should be improved and converted.After the above research, it comes to the conclusion that the Chinese traditionalfuneral filial piety thought is a complex and huge system, with rich content.
