The service object of retail banking is SMEs and individual small customers, trading through branches, ATMs and online banking. That is, commercial banks use modern operational philosophy, rely on high-tech means, and provide a comprehensive, integrated financial services for individuals, families and SMEs, Including deposits, loans, settlements, foreign exchange and financial management, etc. Retail banking has a large customer base, strong anti-risk capability and a broad earnings outlook. Retail banking is the main approach for commercial banks to develop new markets, fields and operational modes. It is convenient for clients to handle bank business at any place and any time.Since the late 1990s, with the development of economy, retail banking presents a huge space for development, and has become a new profit growth point for China's commercial banks. Compared with developed countries,China's retail banking business is still not enough. At present, commercial banks' intermediary business revenue to total revenue is generally within 20%, western Commercial Bank has reached 40% -50%, Citigroup up to 80%. In addition, in the end of 2006, China has full liberalized the financial market,when foreign banks will compete with us by their rich experience and advanced technology in the field of retail banking business.Therefore, developing retail banking business vigorously is the urgent task of the entire banking industry.This article is composed of five chapters.First of all,the article introduces related theories of strategic study on retail banking, and analyzes the external environment of the retail banking in Bank of Communications, Shandong Branch according to the economic and financial development in Shandong Province. Then the article analyzes the present situation of the retail banking in Bank of Communications, Shandong Branch, gives out the questions in detail. At last, the article puts forwad development strategies for retail banking in Bank of Communications, Shandong Branch.
