Abstract/Summary:
Regional economic disparity is a universal phenomenon and is always one of the hotspots in theories of regional economy, one key point of which is to explore the spatial economic patterns. To some extent, the disparity can drive the lagging regions to speed up economic development. At present, the research achievements on the regional economic disparities are quite abundant, but extremely little touch in Chengyu Economic Zone (CYEZ). Most of all, it is so deficient that the comprehensive and systematical researches are done in the CYEZ.Based on the data of GDP per capita and GDP during 1995-2008, the spatio-temporal dynamics of the regional disparities at the county level in the CYEZ were investigated and discussed quantitatively by the method of combining ESDA in ARGGIS software, GEODA in spatial econometrics software and the traditional statistic level. What's more, the paper put forward some proposals and countermeasures after the problems existing in the CYEZ were discussed and analyzed by an econometrics model which considered carefully geo-spatial factors, this based on new endogenous growth theory, new economic geography and former achievements. The detailed results were as followed:1. Temporal dynamic of regional disparities During 1995-2008, both absolute and relative disparities of regional economy in the CYEZ presented ampliative trends and the similar trend was no significance on the whole. Of these, the absolute disparities (SE) kept increasing stably and its value was 7950.374 in 2008 which enlarged 3.8 times than that in 1995. And the relative disparities [CV(w)] growth fluctuated, undergone three stages of a fluctuating decline stage (1995-1998), a jouncy increase stage (1999-2004) and a fast increase stage (2004-2008). Based on the regionalism, the interior disparity in the CYEZ was the leading contributor but its contributing effect was lessening. As far as the economy compartmentalization was concerned, the mainly contributors in the CYEZ were the inner disparity of Chengdu Secondary Economic Zone and the disparity among the five secondary economy sections such as Chengdu, Scuthern Szechwan, Northern Szechwan, One Hour Economic Circle round Chongqing, and Northeastern Chongqing Secondary Economic Zone.2. Spatial dynamic of regional disparities Genernally, the space structures of the economic developing level, the ability of economic growth and the economic density are almost consistent with each other in 1995-2008. That's to say, the developed areas were also high growth and high economic density areas and vice versa. A circular space structure centered on the urban districts of Chengdu and Chongqing was formed and this framework constantly strengthens in the CYEZ. At the present stage, the polarize function of the core regions was dominating and the regional economic development was more likely to be imbalance.3. Influences of regional disparities During the study period, it was significantly positive that all of human capital, urbanization, agriculturalization, industrialization, city dummy variable and topography affected economic growth. And it was no remark effect of both the savings deposits by urban and rural residents and financial expenditure on economic growth. However, market scale was not an important factor for economic growth in the CYEZ.
