As the appearance of the new multimedia services of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), Internet Protocol Television (IPTV),High Definition Television(HDTV),Meeting TV and Video-on-demand(VOD),these services cannot be satisfied by the existing access networks.Optical access networks technology,especially for Passive Optical Network (PON) technology which have flexible access method and high capacity broadband characteristic develops rapidly.Since all users share the channel bandwidth of the structure of the Time Division Multiplex Passive Optical Network(TDM-PON) such as Ethernet passive optical network (EPON)and Gigabit Passive Optical Network(GPON) based on point-to-multipoint,which has been unable to meet the future needs of customers. The Wavelength Division Multiplexing Passive Optical Network(WDM-PON) is the next generation PON system,which provides point-to-point optical connectivity using a dedicated pair of wavelengths per user is widely believed to be the representative technologies of the future broadband access.WDM-PON has many advantages which TDM-PON is not available.First of all,WDM-PON can transport a variety of protocols transparently for all service streams;Secondly,the bandwidth of WDM-PON can be upgraded without changing the physical device,so it has a longer equipment life cycle;Thirdly,since each ONU is assigned to a wavelength in the WDM-PON,the informance is not shared among different users,so there is no security problems caused by TDM-PON which all users receive the same signal.The key feature in WDM-PON is colorless technology,it is central office colorless and colorless on the client,while the colorless of client is asked to make the low-cost and colorless Optical Network Unit(ONU).The using of colorless ONU is to avoid the increasing cost of installation,operation and maintenance which is brought by the wavelength selection devices.The first chapter of this paper describes the research background,the significance,the source of this subiect and the main conents of this topic,and describes the structure and characteristics of the WDM-PON system,and analyzes its advantages and also problems compared with traditional PON;The second chapter analysis the realization principles and the comparison of all kinds of ONUs;The third chapter mainly describes the design of the problem implementation of the WDM-PON scheme which the Item using;The fourth chapter is the comparison of the implementation and the experiment results;The fifth chapter of the text are summarized.
