In recent decades, the development and theoretical results of Ground-penetrating Radar (GPR for short) have been relatively advanced and mature. Rely on the efficiency of GPR and non-destructive detection of the characteristics of the target, which have made GPR been widely used in many areas. This dissertation analyzes that the existing GPRs have defects that low detection resolution or not taking into account the detection depth and resolution. So, the advantages of phased array will be played an important role in the design of GPR in this dissertation. The main point is that the capability of forming a beam scanning and the feature of anti-jamming of phased array antenna will be used to design a new GPR system of the carrier pulse characteristic.According to the subject of "Antenna System of Phased Array Ground-penetrating Radar Design", the research background and current situation and the significance of research are simply described. Then, the design of GPR antenna is put emphasis on after the introduction of work principle and performance indicators of GPR. Soon after-wards, several common commercial GPR' performances are enumerated, on which basis, a type of4×4phased array antenna is proposed and designed to send and receive signals in this dissertation. In order to verify the effect of antenna design, HFSS is made use of to do antenna model creation and simulation upon completion of the antenna design. The results which include return loss (S11shows-14.68dB at1.56GHz) and gain pattern and input impedance and so on, and which indicates that the designed array antenna is suitable for underground detection. At the end, numerical simulation of GPR's antenna is presented. Three commonly used numerical simulation is summarized and every method is explained and made case study, which acts as theoretical foundation is helpful for data analysis of GPR.
