Recently,the car ownership in China is growing tremendously, the parking problem inbig cities, especially the mega-cities, has become one of the key causes of the city trafficcongestion. The Parking Guidance and Information System (PGIS) collect the data of parkinglots in the city, and then issue the information to help the drivers parking convenience.However, the extant PGIS didn't form a complete system, cannot guide the parking car well,in a word, it cannot meet the existing requirements.According to the problems of the existing PGIS, a solution PGIS based on WirelessSensor Network (WSN) is proposed. The nodes of WSN can be set more freely without muchchange on the existing building, and the WSN-based PGIS can be easily compatible with theexisting PGIS. This system provides human service for the users. WSN nodes can detect thestatus of all parking spaces in the parking lots, and then the drivers will know the informationof the parking lots they want to. An optimal parking space choice model is built based ondrivers' behavior of choosing parking space, when there is a new-coming car, the PGIS willcalculate an optimal parking space, plan a path to the space for the car, and guide the driver byvoice and LED displays. Furthermore, the PGIS of parking lots in the city will transfer theinformation to center of this city, then issue the information on LED displays in the main road.Also, users can inquire the parking information of the whole city by mobile terminal.WSN-based PGIS can be built convenience, the cost is low, the service is humanness, andit can take the drivers less time to find the parking space. As an important part of IntelligentTransportation System (ITS), it can help relieve the traffic congestion and solve the problemof parking cars.The main work of this paper is as follows. First of all, the WSN nodes in PGIS wasdesigned, includes the design of sensor model, the design of wireless communication and thedesign of MCU. Secondly, we designed the WSN with non-standard protocol. Thirdly, thecorrelation algorithm was researched and we built the optimal parking space choice model inthe parking lots to deal with the parking guidance issue.
