In recent years, network based remote monitor and control technology has been widely applied in so many fields. It uses remote data acquisition terminal to log the dynamic status of the object under monitoring, sends the data to a central computer or a server through Internet, depending on the results of the analysis and process, determines if the object is running well or has some faults. If a problem is detected, some corresponding measures must be decided.The main subject of this work focuses on test and diagnosis techniques of a weapon control system. It is to explore a more optimal solution upon an existing system. Specifically, upon the analysis and experience concerning the existing data acquisition performance, try to increase sampling rate, to expand sampling capacity, to speed up the data transmission, to quickly locate the fault and to upgrade the overall performance.The architecture of the existing system consists of a standard PC/104bus CPU module and a data acquisition module. It takes DOS, a single-task operating system, as operating system, is unable to run parallel processing. The new solution takes Linux, a multi-task operating system, as its operating system. To comply with the hardware features, the Linux kernel has been tailored, the configuration renewed, the whole system software reassembled, the root file system built, and system boot installed; To make DIAMOND-MM-32-AT, a specific multi-functional module for data acquisition, workable, the corresponding device drivers have been written and debuged; With the employment of socket programming techniques, many multi-threaded programs for data acquisition applications have been finished.This paper presents a whole design plan of a network based data acquisition system, explains in detail the hardware and software architecture, and provides some experimental results to certify the feasibility of the referred solution.
