The image of teachers that the mass media constructs plays an important roles in teachers recognizing themselves and other people understanding teachers. As the internet news becoming an impotant way for people to keep up on current affairs, it has been an import question to research the image of teachers in the internet news. But now there are few researchs on this topic.This article takes internet news reports of teachers as the research object, uses the constructed week sampling as sampling method, and takes People's Daily Online, Xinhua, Sina, Sohu as the target media.This article extracted212valid samples form all the news reports on these sites whose report time was from January1,2010to December31,2010.Then it using quantitative content analysis and text analysis to discuss what the media image of teachers is builded by internet news and are there some problems in this building process.The study found that:(1) the identity characteristics of teachers builded by internet news:①the male teachers is more than twice as female teachers;②the urban teachers is2.7times as much as rural teachers;③the number of teachers in eastern province is the sum of the teachers in central and western provinces.④compared with the population of the teachers in pre-school education, primary education or secondary education the education stage,the population of higher education teachers is the larger.(2) The positive and the negative image of teachers builded by internet news:①The positive reports win the negative with amount. The proportion of positive reports is42.5%, negative reports is29.2%, and others are neutral or controversial reports.②The main positive image of teachers includes:adhere to education jobs and pay all their efforts for education, be considerate of students,be intelligent and made great contribution.③The main negative image of teachers includes:corporal punishment student, break the law,violate ethics morals.The result of the study reveals that the image of teachers constructed by internet news is biased.It critically displays in the two facets:the first is about the discourse power, which lies in the advantaged group and vulnerable group of media.For example,women teachers, rural teachers,the central and western province teachers,pre-school teachers and the teachers working in primary and secondary schools have not enough discourse power, they are the vulnerable group. The other facet lies in the biased postive figure of the teachers,for it is too sanctified.The author thinks this phenomenon is resulted from two factors:one is that Our country have the cultural tradition to expect teachers to be selfless, and the other is because the selection of information resource is affected by the cost of the media information.
