With the rapid development of computer technology, computers are more and more used in the development of safety-related systems. And these systems are usually applied in the rail, aerospace, military, industrial control and other fields that must have strict safety requirements and be closely related to people's lives and property. The special safety features and application fields of these systems require that effective and in-depth study of the safety-related system must be made on them, so that they can make contributions to the economic and social' development. Communications based train control system (CBTC) is a typical safety-related system. In this paper, the CBTC system is used as an example to explore the research method of safety-related systems.The structure and function of CBTC system are very complex. Until now, self-developed products are not existed in the domestic. With the expansion of the city and the surge in urban population, the development of urban rail transit and CBTC systems suitable for China's national conditions and the road situation is imminent and has become the only way to solve the increasingly serious urban traffic problems. This paper applies the model-based simulation method to the independent research and development of the CBTC system. Based on the CBTC model and using simulation methods, a simulation testbench is established for the integration, testing and validation of the self-developed CBTC system. The complete research methods are given in this paper.The main work of this paper is as follows:1. Introduce the research background of the subject and expound on the necessity of the independent research and development of CBTC system. Explain the purpose and significance of using the model-based simulation method to establish the CBTC simulation testbench.2. Introduce in detail the technology involved in the development of CBTC simulation testbench.3. Establish the simulation models through the abstraction and analysis on CBTC system and do module division. Then, introduce briefly on the function of each module.4. Realize the functionality of each module through the modeling and simulation combination method, so as to construct the CBTC simulation testbench. 5. Test and validate the safety features of the Automatic Train Protection (ATP) software with the established CBTC simulation testbench. The test results of the experiment show that:it is in an effective means of using the model-based simulation method for in-depth study of safety-related systems in the independent research and development stage.
