Wireless sensor networks is one of an important technology to obtain information because its low power, low cost, self-organization,distributed and other characteristics, however, resource-constrained makes the study of wireless sensor networks facing the enormous challenges. Reduce energy consumption and prolong network lifetime of wireless sensor networks is an important research direction. In recent years, topology control as one of important technology for wireless sensor networks to reduce energy consumption and prolong the life cycle has become a hot and difficulty research area.Existing topology control algorithms focus on node power control and hierarchical clustering. Paper focuses on hierarchical clustering, deeply analysis and research the typical topology control algorithm—LEACH algorithm, pointes out the shortcomings of LEACH algorithm. Then CDR-I-LEACH algorithm has been proposed to improve LEACH algorithm. In the aspects of cluster head selection, cluster formation and stabilization phase of data information collection and transmission, CDR-I-LEACH algorithm improves LEACH algorithm. Cluster head election takes the residual energy of node, the average distance of node's neighbors and distance between node and the Sink node into account. The formation of cluster takes the size of the cluster and the distance between non cluster head node and cluster head into account. Node uses change driven reporting mechanism to collect and transport data information in stable phase, the communication between Sink node and cluster head adopts multi-hop routing manner.Simulation results show that CDR-I-LEACH algorithm is better than the original LEACH algorithm in the aspects of cluster head distribution, number of nodes alive and overall network energy consumption. CDR-I-LEACH algorithm has reduced the energy consumption and prolonged the lifetime of network.
