With the increasing popularity of IT application, server as an integral part of infrastructure often becomes the bottleneck of entire physical structure. The initial solutions are optimization of single computer performance and addition of CPU or memory modules to a single server. Unfortunately, unlimited enhancement of a single computer function will only bring about another single point of failure in the operating system, which gives birth to the cluster technology. This dissertation tends to give a brief introduction to three distinctive models of cluster architecture on the ground of cluster classification, namely, network, database and operating system. To put it more specifically, the cluster architecture based on load balance successfully brings into effect polling between multiple servers through front-end load balancer and built-in load balancing algorithm; the cluster architecture based on database is characterized by the accomplishment of database mirroring on two servers by means of built-in data replication function in synchronous mode, pseudo-synchronous mode as well as asynchronous mode; taking advantage of its own high availability, the cluster architecture on the basis of operating system is responsible for live migration of resource group (network and shared memory included) between different servers by way of external shared memory. With regards to the practical application, the dissertation provides a detailed explanation of three cluster architectures that such cluster technology as SLB, HADR and HACMP represent respectively. This paper designs three separate implementation plans for foreground, mid-ground and background in the case of one rural commercial bank, arising from its existing needs of information system architecture and information cluster. Featuring superior performance and high availability, this cluster-based solution for enterprises exploits the full potential of load balance for foreground, real-time synchronization for mid-ground database and disaster recovery for background system (including database and its application). The author further analyzes the development of cluster technology and its application prospect in the following chapter.
