With the popularity of the Internet and the development of technologies such as the three-network convergence, people's need for video on demand (VoD) is increasing rapidly. IPv6 has a larger address space, powerful multicast support, QoS quality assurance that makes VoD system based on IPv6 more superior. With the deployment of China's next-generation Internet, IPv6-based VoD system will be more widely used. This thesis analyzes IPv6 multicast technology and the structure of P2P model, and designs a VoD system based on the research of data transmission and data scheduling method. The data transmission is divided into two parts: multicast data transmission and P2P data transmission. When there are more requests, using multicast data transmission can reduce the amount of data transmission links, and reduce the delay of getting data. When a program has less demand, using P2P mode can improve the efficiency of data transmission. The VoD system takes block selection strategy as the foundation of data scheduling. This thesis modifies the block request strategy based on the least recently priority and designs a random recently first data block selection strategy based on inverse proportional function. This strategy can ensure sequence of the blocks closing to playback position and effectively scatter the data throughout the network, also improve the system performance while guaranteeing the playing continuous. The last block request strategy of BitTorrent is used for the data request of VCR operation, a node can request data from multiple nodes simultaneously and that can effectively improve the hit rate and reduce the data acquisition delay. Finally, on the basis of the above research, this thesis designs a VoD system. In the realization of the basic function of VoD system, as far as possible to reduce the occupation of the backbone network bandwidth and to reduce the acquisition delay of critical data. After the above work, the VoD system is tested and the test results show that the system achieves the expected goal.
